Basil is passionate about developing businesses and innovative products which he has done with varying success! His experience spans over 6 years in the development sector with a primary focus on supporting the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Africa, forming strategic partnerships and always seeking creative solutions to persistent youth challenges such as unemployment. His mantra at work is ‘find a way’!
He is well acquainted with the startup ecosystem in Kenya, being the Board Secretary of the Association of Start-up and SMEs Enablers of Kenya (ASSEK), and he is also experienced in mentoring of startups, with consultancy and more. He has worked with development aid organizations such as Hivos & IIED through the Energy Change Lab to improve coverage of decentralised energy solutions.
He has also led a governance project under Making All Voices Count to support the development and spread of innovative approaches to fostering accountable and responsive governance using digital tools and platforms. He appreciates the fact that we can’t agree on every last little thing but of course we can pretend that we do!
